A newscast is supposed to be where we share important information with our viewers. It’s that simple. But let’s be honest, our first attraction in any relationship is usually a physical one. The importance of depth and intellect usually takes a backseat to how the other person looks to us. So, with that in mind, we’ve been sprucing up things a little bit.
By now you’ve probably heard the term high definition or HDTV over and over again. Since television first became a part of American life, it’s been broadcast in something called NTSC at 480 lines of resolution. Now, we’ve progressed to HDTV at anywhere from 720 to 1080 lines of resolutions. What does all this fancy goobledygoop mean to you? Basically, the picture on your television is now sharper and clearer than it’s ever been – if you are watching us on a high definition television. For those of us on the other side of the camera, it translates to a closer look at every wrinkle, mole or hair that is out of place!
Since KFDM is the news leader in Southeast Texas by a long shot, we tend to take things slowly. We’d rather take the time to get it right rather than rush to market with the latest whiz bang. Because of your loyalty, we have the luxury of taking the time to perfect any changes, and we thank you for your support. Such has been our approach to the conversion to HD television.
As long as we were making changes to the quality of the picture, we decided to slap on a new coat of paint and get some new furniture, too. We hope you enjoy this new look created in-house by some talented folks who recycled, repurposed and hand made our new set.
Over the next few weeks, we will be fine tuning, but we hope you are enjoying all the changes. In the meantime, we’ll do our best to keep telling you the things you need and want to know just like we have since 1955; that’s why we are here! After all, if a picture is worth a thousand words then high definition images speak millions!
